Application FAQ
Q: Why do I have to give a role play sample? A: We would like to see what kind of writer you are before we approve your character. It also helps you out, considering the 350 word minimum can occasionally stretch a person's limits. If you prefer a shorter response RPG, this might not be the best game for you. However, if you are up for the challenge, you'll get through that sample in no time!
Q: Do I have to use a celebrity for my character? A: It doesn't necessarily have to be a celebrity, but you are required to have someone as your character representative. It makes it easier for everyone to recognize your posts and it keeps us from going back to your biography to see what colour hair your character has. It makes it much easier to just glance at a photograph or avatar to pick up an answer.
Q: What's up with the flaws? A: Every person, and character, has a flaw. As sad as it might be, nobody is perfect and that falls right in step with role playing. Your flaw does not have to be monumental. You aren't required to have an illness that will shorten your life by twenty-five years and cause your character to have unpredictable emotional breakdowns at any given minute. It can be simple, but each character is required to have flaws. Some good examples are short tempers and a quick tongue. You can have physical flaws, but you need some emotional flaws as well.
Q: Why do you need a character history? A: Sometimes RPers like to read about your character, including their history, to get an idea as to whether or not they have a character that might be able to interact with yours. Plus, since this isn't black-and-white real life, we like to get a general idea of the whole package before making character-to-character commitments.
Q: Appearance... you have a picture, isn't that enough? A: Nope. People are known to take a celebrity and change little details about him or her to fit their own personal character. You might have Tom Cruise as your celebrity but want him to be 6'2" - let's face it, Tom Cruise isn't 6'2". So basically the answer is no, a photograph is not enough to pass for appearance. You are, however, allowed to include a picture in your application. Just be aware that a photograph won't mean you can write less. It is an addition, not a bargaining chip.
Q: What does 'pb' stand for? A: Played by. It's our short term for what celebrity or person you use to portray your character.
Q: What is the secret word mentioned on the application? A: Our nice way of saying you can't join the community until you read the rules.
Q: What if I have a question about my application? Who can help me? A: Any of the administrators or staff members can assist with character applications. Lille, in particular, is fond of them and is always willing to help out.
